Job Description
Responsible for organizing, preserving and providing access to the Southwest Airlines archival collection. The archivist ensures institutional adherence to accepted best practices in archives, assists the corporate historian in researching, crafting, and implementing special projects, archive programs, and rotating special exhibitions.
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Duties and Responsibilities
Develops processes for the arrangement, cataloging and preservation of the Southwest historic artifacts, documents, photographs, and library collections
Recommends actions related to Southwest Airlines history, such as which items to catalog, digitize, file, and display or exhibit
Develops and implements archives management policies and activities based on best practices
Curates memorabilia pieces and manages/controls inventory supplies by ensuring incoming elements are properly stored, monitored, and purging or archiving inventory as necessary
Provides for the arrangement, cataloging and preservation of Southwest’s corporate archive and develops access tools for artifact collections, including guides and discovery aids
Supports Employee, external researchers, and media access to collections
Conducts necessary preventative conservation and re-housing of archival materials
Actively pursues new artifact acquisitions to support Southwest’s mission and collection policy
Processes incoming and backlogged materials by accessioning them using Southwest’s collection management software
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Job Requirements
Expert knowledge of archival principles and practices; and preservation methods and theory
Ability to create and grow an archive program
Knowledge of digital imaging and metadata standards
Ability to organize resources and establish priorities
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Skilled in museum corporate archives or other public history setting
Knowledge of aviation or Southwest history is a plus
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Preferred: Master's degree in Library and or/information Science from an ALA-accredited instituion (or international equivalent) with an archival compenent
Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
Archives management software or museum collection management software
Communication, marketing, or business
Ability to preform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended period of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen of have authorization to work in the Unites States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be 18 years of ages
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by start date to comply with Executive Order 14042, which requires employees of federal contractors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
