    The airfield operations team is developing its’ people, procedures and technology with a clear focus on delivering excellence during an exciting future for Birmingham Airport.

    The primary focus of this diverse role is to carry out grounds and habitat maintenance activities to the airside and landside areas on and around the airport.

    You will work within a small team to participate in the provision of a safe, efficient and cost-effective grounds maintenance services. This important work focuses on habitat and grounds upkeep and preservation in line with an airside habitat and wildlife management plan. The role embraces various support duties and general maintenance activities, within an organisation which offers a great career opportunity for the right person.

    Reporting to the Aerodrome Compliance Manager your work includes an interesting variety of summer and winter operational support functions. This is together with the operation of a wide range of vehicles, equipment and plant associated with agricultural, maintenance and snow clearing work.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Maintaining the Facility

    • To carry out grounds and habitat maintenance activities to the airside and landside areas on and around the airport site, repairs/rehabilitation of grass and amenity areas, assist with the maintenance and cleaning of the airports flood, pollution and drainage systems, general site cleaning/maintenance and assisting with de-icing, snow clearing operations.

    • Assist in maintain the operational grassland and habitat, for the safe operation of aircraft including minor repair work.

    • To carry out planned maintenance, inspections, and repairs to the airside and landside grounds on/around the airport site and its associated infrastructure.

    • Carry out checks and monitoring on mechanical plant and equipment.

    • Assist in the completion of appropriate documentation as required, i.e. operations manuals, risk assessments, method statements, inspection reports / log books, stores requisitions, cost coding, vehicle daily inspection reports, job reports. This is not exhaustive.

    • Assist in the implementation of weekly, monthly and annual agreed maintenance programmes for all facilities.

    • Assisting with the maintenance of trees, grass, hedges and paths, including leaf collection and spraying, mowing, trimming, hedge cutting and general repairs including painting and decorating.

    • Provide technical assistance and expertise for managing maintenance and other activities within the remit of the post.

    • To collect and deliver materials from stores / suppliers / assist with site deliveries and ensure running stocks of materials are maintained and available.

    • To assist in appropriate resources for both planned maintenance activities and reactive maintenance activities including planning working hours around the activities/operational requirements as required.

    • To participate with internal communications systems and to use new technology and systems as appropriate.

    • Provide escort and or radio telecommunications cover for contractors working airside and in remote off-site locations where required.

    • Complying with all relevant driving regulations.

    • Operate and drive specialised equipment and vehicles to ensure the safety of the Aerodrome surfaces, roads and building frontages for all aircraft operations.

    • To assist with de-icing of passenger walkways/ roadways around the apron, snow clearing driving specialist equipment (training provided) and snow dump removal/ relocation.

    • Work in a small team

    • Set the highest safety standards through positive and influencing behaviour.

    • Supporting the Safety Management System (SMS) by complying with safety standards and applying these in accordance with training and safety best practice.

    • Ensuring that all policies, standards, procedures and practice are maintained in accordance with the SMS.

    • Effectively and continually communicate required safety standards with team members through briefings

    • Work collaboratively with other departments and agencies to ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively so as to ensure all areas are maintained to the highest standard.

    • Contributing to deliver best working practices and service to our customer base at Birmingham Airport.

    Job Requirements

    • The ability to work well as part of a small team

    • A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work

    • The capability to work without supervision

    • Prioritising workload according to seasonal requirements, flight schedules and weather conditions

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience or qualification in land management (NVQ or similar is desirable)

    • A full, clean driving licence
