    Provides guidance and support to base leadership and oversight for their respective base(s). Coordinates with Regional Safety Coordinator on sound strategic policies and procedures that increase awareness for workplace safety, compliance, human factors and airline security procedures. Uses various auditing and investigative tools to ensure initiative/program effectiveness in partnership with other working groups/departments, both locally and cross-divisionally. Facilitates Injury Prevention Plan (IPP) and executes safety business plans in order to drive a culture toward zero injuries, and zero aircraft damage, ODI's and security infractions. Becomes knowledgeable with applicable Federal Aviation Administration and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) policies and procedures and Delta In-Flight Health, Safety, & Security operational plans. Responsible for development and execution of ad hoc and initiatives/programs to ensure workplace safety, security, compliance and the safety management system. Interfaces with their specific base(s) in the operation as well as supporting and providing coverage for other bases/FSC's as needed. Interfaces with IFS HSS and local base leaders to support and any external business contact necessary to accomplish the roles and responsibilities of the job. Works with IFS HSS to support regulatory agencies such as FAA, TSA and OSHA maintain compliance and works with agencies when onsite for inspection of any In-Flight Services facility. Practices safety-conscious behavior in all policies and procedures..


    Duties and Responsibilities

    Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:

    • Manage all safety processes/analysis with regards to OJI cases for their respective base(s)

    • Engage and facilitate interactions with Health Central Athletic Trainers when/where applicable.

    • This position requires 30-40% travel between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

    • Primary personal safety liaison between Flight Attendants, IFS Base Leadership and IFS HSS

    • Oversight of supporting FA OJI reporting and return to work process; OJI SME

    • Implement Hazard Identification and near miss processes

    • Assist/Lead incident/safety investigations, coordinating with IFS HSS

    • Host base events, safety fairs, and safety related training (I’ve Got Your Back, etc.)

    • Support safe work practices during Company Business flights

    • Collaborating throughout the division with Admin Services and IFS HSS

    • Ensure FSM’s properly support the injured FA in seeking the appropriate level of care and reporting

    • Initiate ongoing training/coaching to the FSMs

    • Helping the FSMs prepare for the meeting to provide a more in-depth meeting

    • Ensuring the wellness calls are conducted appropriately

    • Participation in the RTW meetings

    • Keeping track of OSHA rules and regulation as it relates to RTW meetings

    • Interface with FAs in all areas

    • Interface with FAA/TSA/OSHA or other regulatory agencies as needed

    • Convey information about corporate injuries initiatives to our bases

    • Provide knowledge regarding appropriate injury prevention practices

    • Track the feedback from the RTW meetings (Providing guidance and bringing issues to our attentions timely to prevent injuries)

    • Audit top issues (i.e. slip, trips and falls, bins, cart safety, etc.)

    • Investigate/track base trends

    • Injury Management

    • Ensure FSMs properly support the injured FA in seeking the appropriate level of care and reporting

    • Ensure the wellness calls and safety review discussions are conducted appropriately

    • Partner with field leaders and Admin Services to ensure Safety Review Panels (SRP) are scheduled with flight attendants following the appropriate requirements and guidelines (OSHA regulations, priority based on severity and frequency, scheduling for duty period and pay, attendees)

    • Partner with field leaders and Admin Services to prepare comprehensive material for the SRP (what is known about the injury, what further info is needed, patterns and other pertinent work history info)

    • Engage and facilitate interactions with Health Central Athletic Trainers where applicable

    • Partner with IFS HSS and field leaders to implement Hazard identification and injury near miss reporting with new SkyPro and Mobile SafetyNet in 2018 and support FA OJI reporting as needed

    • Serve as OJI subject matter expert

    • Audit, Investigation & Analyses

    • Assist and lead as needed incident/safety investigations, coordinating with base leadership and IFS HSS

    • Track the feedback from the SRP meetings (Providing guidance and bringing issues to our attentions timely to prevent injuries)

    • Audit top injury drivers (i.e. slip, trips and falls, bins, cart safety, etc.)

    • Investigate/track base trends

    • Safety Initiative Implementation

    • Partner with field leaders and EIG on implementation of safety initiatives in their base(s)

    • Coach and Promote Safe Behaviors

    • Assist with hosting base events, safety fairs, and safety related training (I’ve Got Your Back, etc.)

    • Conduct ongoing training/coaching of the FSMs

    • Support safe work practices at all times when observing field leaders and flight attendants (in lounge, concourse, on board during company business flights)

    • Provide information about corporate injuries and personal safety initiatives to our bases

    • Provide knowledge regarding appropriate injury prevention practices


    Job Requirements

    • Must successfully complete Flight Attendant Initial Qualification training.

    • This position requires 30-40% travel between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

    • Bachelor's degree in Occupational/Industrial safety, Industrial Hygiene, engineering or related field preferred. Equivalent field experience considered.

    • Must be able to communicate and work effectively with airline and regulatory professionals. Possess strong written and oral communication skills; able to produce and deliver strategic, concise documents and presentations for senior leaders. Ability to think strategically and demonstrate sound decision making in a high pressure, time critical environment. Must be a leader who is able to work in a time sensitive environment, operates comfortably within a rapidly changing environment, be a self-starter and highly motivated. Ability to influence and drive change at all levels of the organization through strong influencing and negotiation skills. Must have experience in developing business cases for safety, security or environmental initiatives and capital projects. Must possess the ability to handle multiple projects and competing priorities with minimal direction. A successful candidate will have strong decision-making and problem-solving skills and should communicate effectively across multiple levels of leadership within the organization. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be a team oriented player with organizational and project management skills. Demonstrates the ability to use a variety of tools including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must be performing satisfactorily in present position.

    • Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's degree in similar fields preferred. Experience working in an aviation related industry is preferred.

    • OHST/ASP/CSP and/or CIH or similar certifications preferred. Knowledge and experience in Safety Management Systems preferred.
